Where it came from
Eerie number 45 was published in March 1973 by Warren Publishing, a company that played a pivotal role in the American horror comics landscape by bypassing the Comics Code Authority. This issue emerged during a high point for the publication, which utilized a larger magazine-style format to feature sophisticated black-and-white illustrations that distinguished the series from the standard color comics of the era.
The cover art for this issue was produced by Sanjulián, a Spanish artist whose lush, atmospheric, and highly detailed painting style became synonymous with the visual identity of Warren's horror magazines. His work on this specific issue is noted for its evocative composition, contributing to the title's reputation as a showcase for international talent and a precursor to the more mature graphic storytelling that would gain prominence in the following decades.
