Where it came from
Eikyū-Kei, or Eternal Type, is a niche Japanese independent publication centered on the intersection of experimental graphic design and typography. Issue number 2 emerged during a period of heightened interest in analog-digital synthesis, serving as a platform for designers to push the boundaries of readability and form through unconventional grid layouts and layered printing techniques.
The publication is noted for its collaborative editorial approach, often featuring work from various Tokyo-based studios interested in subverting traditional layout norms. The design of this specific issue relies heavily on high-contrast monochromatic palettes and expressive type-treatments, reflecting a minimalist yet chaotic aesthetic that remains a hallmark of the series' contribution to contemporary graphic arts.
