Where it came from
ElfQuest: Siege at Blue Mountain #8, released in 1987, serves as the final installment of a pivotal miniseries within the larger ElfQuest saga. Created by Wendy and Richard Pini, the series was published under their own WaRP Graphics imprint, which played a foundational role in the independent comic book movement. This particular story arc follows the Wolfriders as they navigate the treacherous politics and brutal environment of Blue Mountain, marking a significant transition in the overarching narrative by expanding the world-building beyond the forest setting.
Wendy Pini provided the intricate, fluid artwork that defines the series, drawing inspiration from a blend of European illustration styles and classic American comics. The design focuses on character-driven storytelling, emphasizing the internal struggles of the elves as they encounter the corrupted trolls and the mysterious Go-Backs. Upon its release, the series was well-received by fans for its mature thematic depth and high-quality production, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of independent fantasy comics during the 1980s.
