Escape from New York: Escape from Chicago #1

Escape from New York: Escape from Chicago #1 was published by Boom! Studios in 2006, serving as a direct comic book continuation of John Carpenter's cult classic 1981 film. The series was conceptualized to explore the narrative gap between the original film and its 1996 sequel, Escape from L.A., bringing the iconic protagonist Snake Plissken into a new urban wasteland. This specific issue establishes the premise of Plissken navigating the ruins of Chicago, maintaining the gritty, dystopian aesthetic established in the source material.

The creative team behind the series, including writer Mike Baron and artist Val Mayerik, aimed to capture the cynical, survivalist tone that defined the Snake Plissken character. By expanding the franchise into the comic medium, the creators sought to satisfy a demand for further adventures featuring the anti-hero. The series was generally received as a faithful expansion of the film's lore, appealing to fans of 1980s action cinema who appreciated the transition of the high-concept premise into a serialized comic format.
