Evangeline #2

Evangeline #2, released in 1984 by Comico Comics, serves as part of the initial run of the dark fantasy series created by Chuck Dixon and Judith Hunt. Emerging during the mid-eighties rise of independent comics, the series offered a distinctive gothic aesthetic that departed from the standard superhero fare of the era. The narrative follows a nun-turned-vampire hunter in a war-torn, pseudo-medieval setting, blending supernatural horror with gritty action elements that captured the niche market for creator-owned experimentation.

Judith Hunt provided the visual identity for the series, utilizing a detailed, illustrative style that emphasized shadow and atmosphere to heighten the book's macabre tone. As the second installment in the limited series, this issue was tasked with deepening the world-building initiated in the debut, focusing on the protagonist's internal conflict and her grim tactical mission. Upon its release, the book was noted for its departure from traditional industry norms and remains a significant artifact of the independent black-and-white comic boom of the 1980s.
