Where it came from
Evil Eater was a short-lived horror comic series published by DC Comics in 1974, emerging during a period when the publisher was experimenting with darker, supernatural anthologies and titles like House of Mystery. The series followed the story of Stalker, a character who hunted evil entities by consuming them, reflecting the gritty and slightly macabre tone that permeated mid-seventies independent and mainstream horror comics.
The creative direction for the series was handled by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ramona Fradon, who sought to blend traditional superhero aesthetics with occult themes. The series was designed to appeal to readers looking for darker narratives beyond typical caped crusader stories, though it struggled to find a long-term audience, leading to its cancellation after only a few issues.
