From Beyond the Unknown #16

From Beyond the Unknown was a science fiction anthology series published by DC Comics during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Issue number 16, released in 1972, reflects the publisher's strategy of reprinting classic stories from their earlier Silver Age sci-fi titles like Strange Adventures and Mystery in Space. This era of DC history was defined by a transition toward more experimental storytelling and a reliance on archival material to fill the pages of their growing genre-specific lines.

The interior art and narratives in these reprints often featured the work of legendary creators such as Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Gil Kane. While the series was essentially a vessel for dusting off older, well-regarded tales for a new generation of readers, it remained a staple of the newsstand rack for fans of pulp-inspired cosmic horror and space exploration. It is remembered today primarily as a bridge between the classic sci-fi tropes of the fifties and the more complex character-driven narratives that would emerge later in the Bronze Age of comics.
