Fukigen na Koushaku-sama wa Uso Hakkenki Tsuki Reijou no Torisetsu wo Goshomou desu #1

Fukigen na Koushaku-sama wa Uso Hakkenki Tsuki Reijou no Torisetsu wo Goshomou desu, or 'The Grumpy Duke Desires the Manual for the Young Lady with a Lie Detector,' is a light novel series that entered the crowded landscape of Japanese web-based romantic fantasy. It emerged from the popular Shousetsuka ni Narou platform, where authors often iterate on established tropes—in this case, the 'reijou' or aristocratic young lady genre—by adding a specific, often humorous, supernatural or mechanical twist.

The first volume serves to introduce the unique dynamic between the titular grumpy duke and the protagonist whose ability to detect lies sets her apart from traditional courtly archetypes. The series benefits from the distinct character designs typically found in modern light novel illustrations, which prioritize expressive, slightly exaggerated aesthetic traits to convey character temperament. Like many works in this category, its success is driven by the online community’s engagement, leading to its transition into physical print media.
