Where it came from
Generation X #45, released in late 1998, arrived during a transformative period for the series. Written by Jay Faerber with interior art by Terry Dodson, the issue serves as a pivotal entry in the 'The Counter-Evolutionary' storyline. This era of the title was focused on balancing the internal dynamics of the Massachusetts Academy students with the broader, often grim threats inherent to the X-Men universe.
Terry Dodson’s art style is a defining characteristic of this run, known for its polished, energetic character designs that helped define the visual aesthetic of late 90s Marvel comics. The issue was received by readers as a quintessential example of the teen-hero trope, successfully grounding supernatural conflict within the interpersonal anxieties of young mutants navigating a world that often feared them.
