Where it came from
Published in 1975, Giant-Size Fantastic Four #5 was part of Marvel Comics' mid-seventies initiative to capitalize on the popularity of larger-format, higher-page-count comic books. This specific issue is historically significant for featuring the wedding of the Thing and Alicia Masters, a major milestone in the long-running Fantastic Four narrative that balanced the character-driven drama Marvel was known for with the spectacle of the giant-size format.
The issue was written by Bill Mantlo and featured interior artwork by Rich Buckler. It was conceived as a special event, moving away from the typical superhero skirmishes of the era to focus on the emotional growth of Benjamin Grimm. While the Giant-Size line was ultimately a short-lived experiment for the publisher, this issue remains a sought-after entry for collectors due to its status as a key Fantastic Four life event and the unique artistic contributions of the mid-seventies Marvel bullpen.
