Green Arrow #1

Green Arrow #1 was published by DC Comics in 1983 as the character's first self-titled limited series. While the character, created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, had been a fixture in the DC universe since 1941, he had previously existed primarily as a supporting player in 'More Fun Comics' and 'The Brave and the Bold'. This four-issue prestige format series was designed to redefine Oliver Queen, moving him away from the lighter, campy sensibilities of his past toward the gritty, socially conscious urban vigilante persona he is known for today.

The series was written by Mike W. Barr and illustrated by Trevor Von Eeden. Their artistic direction sought to ground the character in a more realistic setting, emphasizing the psychological toll of his crusade and his complex relationship with Black Canary.
