Green Lantern: Mosaic #16

Green Lantern: Mosaic #16 was released in 1993 as part of a short-lived spin-off series written by Gerard Jones. The series emerged from the aftermath of the Green Lantern story arc where John Stewart, after failing to prevent the destruction of the planet Xanshi, was tasked by the Guardians of the Universe to govern Mosaic, a patchwork world on Oa composed of various cities stolen from across the galaxy. This context placed Stewart in an introspective, philosophical role that moved away from traditional superhero action toward character-driven cosmic drama.

The issue features artwork by Cully Hamner, who worked to translate the series' surreal, multicultural landscape into a distinct visual aesthetic. The series was designed to explore the psychological burden of leadership and the challenges of cultural assimilation, though it struggled to find a consistent audience within the broader DC Comics landscape at the time. Despite its unconventional narrative structure and focus on the internal development of John Stewart, the series was ultimately cancelled after eighteen issues, cementing its status as an ambitious but niche experimental project in the Green Lantern canon.
