Groo the Wanderer #4

Groo the Wanderer #4 was published in 1985 by Epic Comics, an imprint of Marvel Comics. The character, a dim-witted but incredibly lethal barbarian, was created by Sergio Aragonés in the 1970s and developed further with writer Mark Evanier. This specific issue is part of the original Epic run, which helped establish the series as a cult favorite for its biting satire of sword-and-sorcery tropes and its signature kinetic, wordless humor integrated into the panels.

The visual identity of the series is defined by the unique, loose-line art style of Aragonés, who meticulously illustrated the adventures himself. His approach favored visual gags and expressive character acting over traditional heroic posing, which stood in stark contrast to the dominant comic book aesthetic of the mid-1980s. Upon release, the series was well-regarded by readers and critics alike for its consistency, wit, and the rare ability of the creative team to maintain a single vision across many years of publication.
