Haguchi-san #12

Haguchi-san is a long-running, minimalist four-panel manga series created by the artist Kiyroki. It first gained traction as a webcomic before seeing print serialization, characterized by its deceptively simple, rounded aesthetic and dry, observational humor. Issue #12 continues the series' signature focus on the mundane yet surreal daily life of its titular character, a small, blob-like creature navigating an increasingly absurd world.

The design philosophy of the Haguchi-san series relies on a stark economy of line, prioritizing character expression and timing over detailed background work. This aesthetic choice resonated with a niche audience that appreciated the contrast between the character's cute, approachable appearance and the surprisingly cynical or existential nature of the writing. By the twelfth installment, the series had firmly established its place in the contemporary Japanese independent comic scene, celebrated for its unique ability to capture fleeting moments of melancholy and joy.
