Where it came from
Hai Kochira Kaiki-Bu Desu, or This is the Occult Club, is a manga series created by artist and author Katsuhito Akiyama. The first issue serves as the introduction to a series characterized by its blend of supernatural mystery and comedic elements, reflecting the trend of school-based paranormal narratives that gained traction in Japanese manga during the 1990s.
The design of the series balances lighthearted character interactions with eerie, occult-themed plot points, a hallmark of Akiyama's stylistic approach to the genre. Upon its release, the work was positioned within the broader landscape of seinen and shonen anthologies, appealing to readers who enjoyed atmospheric storytelling combined with episodic character-driven humor.
