Hunter × Hunter #39

Hunter × Hunter volume 39 was released in early 2023, marking a significant milestone for Yoshihiro Togashi’s long-running manga series. It collects chapters that were originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump following an extensive hiatus, representing the author's return to the narrative despite his well-documented health challenges. The volume primarily focuses on the intricate, high-stakes Succession Contest arc set aboard the Black Whale, a setting that emphasizes Togashi’s signature complex world-building and dense, dialogue-heavy plotting.

The design of the volume continues the aesthetic established by the series, featuring minimalist cover art that highlights character depth over traditional action-oriented layouts. Togashi’s work is highly regarded for its subversion of shonen tropes, and this volume is noted by critics for its uncompromising approach to serialized storytelling. It remains a key piece of modern manga history, demonstrating both the enduring dedication of its creator and the deep structural complexity that defines the Hunter × Hunter franchise.
