Where it came from
I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day was a personal, self-published anthology series created by the artist John Porcellino. Emerging from the DIY zine culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the series served as a space for Porcellino to explore themes of isolation, mental health, and the quiet observations of everyday life through a minimalist, stark aesthetic.
The eighth issue continues the series' signature style, characterized by simple line art and sparse narrative structure that emphasizes emotional resonance over complex plotting. As part of Porcellino's wider body of work, which eventually informed the creation of his long-running King-Cat Comics and Stories, this issue is regarded by collectors as a foundational example of contemporary autobiographical underground comics.
