Ichi the Killer (Omnibus) #3

The Ichi the Killer omnibus series compiles the extreme seinen manga written and illustrated by Hideo Yamamoto, originally serialized in the monthly magazine Young Sunday starting in 1998. This specific volume serves as part of a collected edition released to make the brutal, hyper-violent narrative accessible to international audiences, following the cult success of Takashi Miike’s 2001 film adaptation.

Yamamoto’s design for the series is defined by a distinct, gritty aesthetic that juxtaposes grotesque violence with psychological examination. The work was initially received as a transgressive piece of dark fiction, praised by proponents of the genre for its unflinching approach to its subject matter, while remaining highly controversial for its explicit depictions of sadomasochism and internal trauma.
