Ikegami Ryōichi Tanpenshū: Kobushi-Zamurai #1

Ikegami Ryōichi Tanpenshū: Kobushi-Zamurai was published as part of a series showcasing the short-form work of master manga artist Ryoichi Ikegami. Rising to prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s, Ikegami became renowned for his distinctively cinematic panel layouts, hyper-realistic anatomy, and his ability to blend gritty crime or historical drama with profound emotional depth. This collection captures his signature aesthetic during a period where he was refining the sophisticated, detailed ink-wash style that would define his later collaborations with writers like Kazuo Koike.

The design of this series reflects the trend in Japanese publishing to curate the shorter, experimental, or standalone narratives of established masters into accessible anthology volumes. By grouping these diverse tales, the publication allowed readers to witness Ikegami’s stylistic evolution as an illustrator. Upon release, these collections were received as essential studies for those interested in the technical precision of gekiga, cementing Ikegami's reputation as one of the most technically gifted visual storytellers of his generation.
