Ikenai Nanako-san #12

Ikenai Nanako-san is a long-running manga series primarily associated with the adult-oriented magazine Lemon People. The series, created by the artist Hideo Azuma, became a notable fixture of the 1980s alternative manga scene, characterized by Azuma’s signature whimsical yet irreverent drawing style. Issue 12 reflects the series' focus on surreal humor and the unconventional misadventures of its titular protagonist, Nanako.

Hideo Azuma was a pioneer of the semi-autobiographical and absurdist subgenres within manga. By the time this issue was released, the series had established a dedicated cult following for its ability to balance eccentric gag-based narratives with a distinctive, deceptively simple aesthetic. The work is widely regarded as a significant example of the creative freedom afforded to manga artists during the experimental publishing environment of the mid-to-late 1980s.
