Where it came from
Il Giornalino is a long-running Italian weekly magazine for youth, founded in 1924 by the San Paolo Society. Throughout its history, it has functioned as an educational and entertainment vehicle, blending Catholic values with high-quality serialized comics, historical features, and articles on current events. The publication became a cornerstone of Italian children's literature, surviving for decades by evolving its visual style and narrative approach to reflect the changing interests of its readers.
The design and content of the magazine were shaped by a rotating roster of prominent Italian comic artists and illustrators, including figures like Benito Jacovitti and Sergio Toppi, who utilized the platform to experiment with diverse artistic expressions. By the time this specific issue was published in the magazine's 88th year of circulation, the format had become a refined showcase for modern graphic storytelling, balancing classic serial adventure with contemporary themes, and it remained highly regarded for its commitment to editorial quality and artistic integrity within the Italian publishing landscape.
