Illustrerte Klassikere #21

Illustrerte Klassikere, the Norwegian adaptation of the American Classics Illustrated series, was launched in 1958 by Williams Forlag. Issue number 21 features an adaptation of Jack London's The Call of the Wild. This series was instrumental in bringing literary staples to a younger Norwegian audience, offering abridged, comic-book style retellings that made classic world literature accessible and visually engaging during the post-war era.

The visual style of the series relied on the high-quality illustrative work commissioned by its American parent company, Gilberton, often featuring dynamic, dramatic panels that captured the intensity of the source material. These comics were well-received by parents and educators for their perceived educational value, serving as a staple in Norwegian homes throughout the 1960s and 70s as an affordable entry point into classic adventure and historical fiction.
