Where it came from
Imasara Desu ga, Osananajimi wo Suki ni Natte Shimaimashita, written and illustrated by the artist known as Ouji, debuted as a romantic comedy manga centered on the evolving relationship between long-time childhood friends. Volume 2 continues the narrative arc established in the series' inception, focusing on the protagonist's dawning realization of their romantic feelings and the awkward, heartfelt social dynamics that ensue. The series is part of a broader trend in contemporary Japanese manga that emphasizes intimate, character-driven storytelling within the slice-of-life genre.
The visual design of the volume reflects modern seinen and shonen-adjacent aesthetic standards, characterized by expressive character designs and clear, emotive paneling that prioritizes the internal monologue of the leads. Ouji's work on this series has been noted for its grounded approach to the 'childhood friend' trope, aiming to evoke nostalgia and relatability among its target demographic. Upon release, the volume served to solidify the series' position within its publisher's catalog, garnering a steady following for its blend of humor and earnest romantic tension.
