Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun, known in English as Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, originated as a light novel series by Yuki Yaku before being adapted into a manga serialization. The manga, illustrated by Eight Chida, began its run in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in 2017. The project was conceived as a lighthearted yet introspective take on the 'social survival' genre, subverting common tropes by framing high school social hierarchies as a complex video game for the protagonist to master.

The fifth volume of the manga collection continues the narrative arc where the protagonist, Fumiya Tomozaki, navigates the complexities of interpersonal relationships under the guidance of Aoi Hinami. Eight Chida’s character designs are noted for their clean, expressive linework that balances the series' moments of comedic exaggeration with the more grounded emotional beats of the story.
