Where it came from
Kaguya-Den is a manga series written and illustrated by Aki Hoshino, originally serialized in the Japanese publication Monthly Princess. The series draws inspiration from the classic Japanese folktale 'The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter,' reimagining the celestial origins of Princess Kaguya through a shōjo lens that emphasizes ethereal aesthetic sensibilities and the complex emotional interiority of its protagonist.
The second issue serves as a critical expansion of the series' lore, further establishing the friction between the protagonist’s heavenly heritage and the earthly challenges she faces. Hoshino’s visual style, characterized by delicate linework and an emphasis on traditional motifs blended with modern character design, received modest critical notice for its ability to balance mythological weight with the pacing expectations of contemporary serial manga.
