Kamisama Kiss #1

Kamisama Kiss, known in Japan as Kamisama Hajimemashita, was written and illustrated by Julietta Suzuki. It began its serialization in the shojo manga magazine Hana to Yume in 2008. The story follows Nanami Momozono, a high school girl who finds herself homeless and unexpectedly becomes a local deity after inheriting a shrine from a stranger, eventually forming a complex bond with her familiar, Tomoe.

The series was conceived as a lighthearted but emotionally resonant romantic comedy rooted in Japanese folklore and Shinto traditions. Suzuki's design philosophy emphasized the contrast between the chaotic modern life of the protagonist and the serene, supernatural world of the shrine. Upon its release, the series received positive critical attention for its blend of humor, character growth, and artistic detail, eventually leading to a successful anime adaptation and cementing its place as a staple of the fantasy-romance genre.
