Kingdom Come - Przyjdź Królestwo #1

Kingdom Come, published by DC Comics in 1996, was a seminal four-issue limited series written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Alex Ross. Created during a period when the comic industry was shifting toward darker, more cynical anti-heroes, the story serves as a philosophical meditation on the role of traditional morality in a changing world. It depicts an aging Superman returning from retirement to lead a new generation of metahumans who lack the moral compass of the old guard.

The aesthetic of this series is defined by Alex Ross’s hyper-realistic, painted approach, which was intended to ground the larger-than-life archetypes of the DC Universe in a sense of visceral reality. The design work, particularly the updated costumes, was celebrated for its blend of classic iconography and mature, modern grit. Upon its release, the series was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning a place as one of the most respected graphic novels in the medium for its blend of sophisticated narrative themes and unprecedented artistic quality.
