Kong the Untamed #1

Kong the Untamed #1, published by DC Comics in 1975, emerged during a mid-1970s fascination with sword-and-sorcery fantasy, a genre revitalized by the success of characters like Conan the Barbarian. Created by writer Nicola Cuti and artist Alan Weiss, the series was designed to tap into the pulp-inspired storytelling that characterized the era, focusing on the primitive, visceral adventures of its titular hero within a prehistoric landscape.

The character design reflects a classic 1970s aesthetic, emphasizing hyper-masculine, rugged archetypes common in the comics of the period. While the series was a notable attempt by DC to establish its own footing in the sword-and-sorcery market, it remained a short-lived endeavor, running for only a few issues before being cancelled. Despite its brief lifespan, it is remembered by collectors today as a reflection of the creative experimentation occurring within the industry during the Bronze Age of comics.
