Konna Hazu Janakatta? Sore wa Zannen Deshita ne: Watashi wa Jiyū Kimama ni Kurashitai #1

Konna Hazu Janakatta? Sore wa Zannen Deshita ne: Watashi wa Jiyū Kimama ni Kurashitai is a light novel series written by Mitsuhiro Suhara and illustrated by Rireko, first published in Japan in 2021. The series fits firmly within the popular isekai and reincarnation fantasy genre, centering on a protagonist who navigates the complexities of a new life with a focus on personal autonomy rather than typical heroics. It emerged during a period of high demand for 'slow life' sub-genres, where readers gravitated toward narratives prioritizing a relaxed existence over traditional high-stakes adventure.

The character designs by Rireko are intended to evoke a lighthearted, accessible aesthetic that complements the series' focus on freedom and individuality. As the debut volume, this issue establishes the world-building and character motivations that define the tone of the entire collection. Upon its release, it was received as a straightforward, engaging entry within the crowded fantasy light novel market, appealing primarily to readers who enjoy character-driven stories with low-angst, slice-of-life elements.
