Where it came from
This volume is part of a Japanese light novel series adapted from a web novel originally published on the user-generated platforms Shōsetsuka ni Narō and Kakuyomu. The title, which translates roughly to 'I Told My Fiancé to Break Up With Me Because You Will Cheat on Me and Leave Me in the Future,' reflects the popular 'reunion' or 'time-slip' subgenre prevalent in modern Japanese fantasy literature. The series gained traction for its dramatic subversion of typical noble engagement tropes, focusing on the heroine's desperate efforts to rewrite her perceived tragic fate.
The illustrations for this series are credited to the artist Suzuka, whose delicate and expressive character designs helped define the series' visual identity. As is standard for the KADOKAWA light novel imprint that publishes these volumes, the design aims to balance the narrative’s heavier themes of betrayal and regret with the aesthetic appeal typical of contemporary romance manga and light novel publications. The work received a positive reception among digital readers before its print serialization, allowing it to move successfully into a second volume release.
