Where it came from
Kōri Zokusei Danshi to Kūru na Dōryō Joshi, known in English as The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague, originated as a viral social media webcomic by Miyuki Tonogaya before being serialized on the Gangan Pixiv platform in 2019. The series explores the life of Himuro, a descendant of a snow spirit who unintentionally freezes his surroundings when emotionally overwhelmed, and his stoic coworker Fuyutsuki. Volume eight continues the series' established themes of gentle workplace romance and supernatural workplace comedy, reflecting the creator's signature clean, aesthetic-focused character design that emphasizes both charm and emotional warmth.
The character designs were developed by Tonogaya to contrast Himuro’s overtly magical, expressive nature with Fuyutsuki’s calm, human composure, creating a dynamic that resonates with fans of slice-of-life manga. The series has been widely praised for its soothing tone and character development, eventually receiving an anime adaptation in 2023. Volume eight represents a mature point in the narrative progression, maintaining the visual consistency and gentle pacing that have defined the franchise since its inception as an independent webcomic project.
