Kuroi Kusushi to Shiroki Ryuhime #1

Kuroi Kusushi to Shiroki Ryuhime, or The Black Pharmacist and the White Dragon Princess, is a light novel series authored by Ryosuke Hosono and illustrated by Shiroi. It emerged from the thriving Japanese web novel scene before being serialized in print format, typically featuring the distinct blend of fantasy world-building and character-driven interpersonal dynamics common to the seinen-targeted light novel demographic.

The first volume introduces the core premise of a specialized practitioner navigating a world intertwined with mythical creatures. Shiroi’s character designs are noted for their clean, ethereal aesthetic, which serves to balance the more clinical or grounded aspects of the protagonist's work as a pharmacist. Upon release, the series found a niche audience among readers of fantasy-adventure light novels, valued for its approach to magic systems that prioritize alchemical processes over simple combat.
