Where it came from
Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai S is a spin-off series derived from Makino's popular shoujo manga, Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai. The original series, which began serialization in Bessatsu Friend in 2014, gained significant traction for its exploration of high school dynamics and the trope-heavy 'Black Prince' archetype. The spin-off project allowed the creator to delve further into specific character interactions and expanded narratives that resonated with the established readership of the main series.
The design and artistic direction maintain the signature aesthetic of the Bessatsu Friend house style, characterized by expressive character designs and atmospheric paneling that emphasizes emotional tension. As part of a larger franchise that includes both the original manga and a live-action film adaptation, this volume reflects the late 2010s trend of extending successful shoujo properties through supplemental content. The work was received as a welcomed return for fans invested in the lead characters' evolving relationships.
