Where it came from
La Luna en una Noche de Lluvia is a notable work within the landscape of independent Spanish graphic narrative. The series was created by the artist Alfonso Zapico and first gained recognition during the mid-2000s, reflecting a period of creative evolution for the author before his broader acclaim for historical graphic novels. The work serves as a personal exploration of melancholy and atmosphere, characterized by Zapico’s distinct, illustrative style that emphasizes mood and character interiority over traditional genre tropes.
The design and artistic execution of the series showcase Zapico's early technical development, utilizing stark contrasts and evocative shading to translate the feeling of a rainy, introspective night onto the page. The publication was received as a sensitive contribution to the medium, marking a departure from more mainstream comic trends of the time. By focusing on the emotional resonance of its title, the series establishes a contemplative tone that remains a hallmark of the author's later, more widely celebrated biographical projects.
