Le Fantôme #446

Le Fantôme, the French-language iteration of The Phantom, holds a distinct place in the history of European pulp and adventure comics. Issue 446 emerged from a long-running licensing agreement that saw Lee Falk’s iconic creation translated and adapted for Francophone audiences. These issues were typically produced as part of serialised monthly or bi-monthly digest-sized publications, reflecting the mid-century appetite for affordable, action-oriented escapism in Western Europe.

The aesthetic of this series was heavily influenced by the original American newspaper strips, though the editorial teams often commissioned unique covers or adapted layouts to suit the local format. While the stories themselves were rooted in Falk's jungle adventure mythology, the presentation in this specific issue represents the mid-to-late era of the series' distribution, where the character had firmly cemented his role as a staple of European newsstands alongside other imported adventure heroes.
