Where it came from
Legion of Super-Heroes Annual #3, published by DC Comics in 1987, stands as a significant milestone in the history of the Legion franchise. It was crafted during a transitional period for the team, aiming to address the complex continuity established by writer Paul Levitz and artist Keith Giffen. The issue is primarily recognized for the marriage of Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, a narrative arc that had been developing for years and served as a core emotional anchor for the series' long-term readership.
The issue features artwork by Curt Swan, a legendary figure in the DC stable known for his definitive take on the Superman mythos, working alongside Keith Giffen. The creative team sought to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Legion's internal romantic dramas while maintaining the high-stakes sci-fi aesthetic that defined the mid-eighties tenure of the title. It was received by fans of the era as a respectful and definitive capstone to a pivotal chapter of the Legion’s lore.
