Lex Luthor: Diabolical Genius #1

Lex Luthor: Diabolical Genius #1 was published by DC Comics in 2005 as a prestige format one-shot. The story was intended to serve as a focused character study of Superman's arch-nemesis, exploring his internal motivations and his perception of his own intellect compared to the alien power of the Man of Steel. It emerged during a period where DC was interested in publishing more standalone, psychologically driven narratives centered on high-profile villains.

The issue was written by Joe Kelly, who had previously helmed significant runs on Superman titles, with artwork provided by Pasqual Ferry. Ferry’s dynamic, detailed style was utilized to emphasize the grand scale of Luthor’s megalomania and his sophisticated, sterile world. Upon its release, the comic was generally well-received by readers who appreciated the shift toward an analytical look at Luthor’s morality and his long-standing obsession with Superman.
