Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1

Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 2022 as part of a miniseries exploring the character's life independent of her traditional role in Peter Parker's orbit. The story was crafted by writer Jed MacKay and artist Carlos Nieto, who aimed to reposition Mary Jane Watson as a lead protagonist capable of navigating the high-stakes world of New York's superhero community on her own terms. The series leans into the classic 'spunky' persona of the character while updating her internal narrative for a modern audience.

The visual design and editorial direction were received as a welcome spotlight on a character often defined solely by her proximity to Spider-Man. Nieto’s illustrations were praised for maintaining a distinct, vibrant style that complements the fast-paced tone of the script. By centering the narrative on Mary Jane’s personal agency and professional aspirations, the book functions as a character study that resonates with long-time fans of the Spider-Man mythos who appreciate the evolution of its supporting cast.
