Meikyū Black Company #14

Meikyū Black Company, written and illustrated by Youhei Yasumura, began its serialization in 2016 within the pages of Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine. The series functions as a satirical take on the isekai genre, subverting traditional heroic narratives by placing a modern-day professional slacker, Kinji Ninomiya, into a brutal, labor-intensive fantasy world. Issue 14 serves as a continuation of this narrative arc, maintaining the series' signature blend of dark humor and commentary on corporate exploitation.

The aesthetic of the series is defined by Yasumura’s clean, expressive line work and his ability to balance comedic character interactions with world-building elements. By depicting the protagonist's attempts to navigate a dungeon-based economy as if it were a high-stakes business venture, the design choices reflect a cynicism toward late-stage capitalism. The work has been generally well-received for its departure from standard fantasy tropes and its focus on bureaucratic absurdity.
