Misery Loves Company #11

Misery Loves Company #11 is a key entry in the independent comic series created by writer and artist Avner Engel, which gained a cult following in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The series was rooted in the alternative comics movement, characterized by its dark, often cynical explorations of human relationships and existential dread. By the time the eleventh issue was released, the title had established itself as a staple of the underground scene, offering a stark contrast to the superhero-dominated market of the era.

Engel’s design and illustrative style for this series leaned heavily into minimalist, expressive line work that emphasized the emotional weight of his narrative. The aesthetic was intended to mirror the bleak, dry humor of the characters' internal monologues, stripping away traditional heroic embellishments in favor of gritty, relatable human failure. Critics and readers of the period often praised the series for its uncompromising tone and its willingness to confront the mundane struggles of modern life with brutal sincerity.
