Mister Miracle #19

Mister Miracle issue 19 was published by DC Comics in 1989 as part of a four-issue limited series revival. This specific run was written by J.M. DeMatteis and illustrated by Joe Staton, tasked with reintroducing the New Gods characters created by Jack Kirby to a new generation of readers. The creative team aimed to balance the cosmic, high-stakes mythology established in the 1970s with a grounded, character-driven tone that highlighted the domestic struggles of Scott Free and Big Barda.

The revival was generally received as a thoughtful exploration of legacy and the challenges of integrating godlike beings into mundane human society. Joe Staton’s clean, expressive line work complemented DeMatteis’s thematic focus on psychological depth, moving away from the purely operatic scope of the original Kirby run. While the 1989 series was shorter than its predecessors, it remains a respected bridge between the character's Bronze Age origins and the modern interpretations that followed.
