Monsters in Love: A Pride Anthology #1

Monsters in Love: A Pride Anthology #1 was released in 2022 as a collaborative project centered on the intersection of monster romance tropes and LGBTQ+ storytelling. The anthology emerged from an increasingly popular trend in independent publishing where creature-feature narratives are subverted to explore themes of queer identity, belonging, and non-traditional affection. It was conceived as a celebration of the 'monster romance' subgenre, providing a platform for creators to highlight diverse voices within the speculative fiction community during Pride month.

The issue features a variety of illustrators and writers, each contributing short-form narratives that prioritize character-driven emotional arcs over traditional horror aesthetics. The design of the anthology leans into vibrant, genre-conscious cover art that signals its niche appeal, moving away from conventional comic book tropes to embrace the romance-heavy aesthetic common in digital-first serials. Upon its release, it was received as a significant milestone for independent queer horror-romance, recognized for its commitment to inclusive storytelling within a frequently marginalized literary space.
