Where it came from
Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 was released in 2024 as part of a crossover event published by Marvel Comics. This limited series was conceived to celebrate the intersection of Jim Henson’s iconic Muppet characters with the expansive Marvel superhero mythos, an idea that had been explored sporadically in promotional imagery but rarely in a formal, narrative comic book format.
The issue was written by Donovan Grant and illustrated by various contributors who aimed to balance the absurdist, meta-humor characteristic of The Muppets with the classic tropes of Marvel storytelling. The design and tonal execution were aimed at both nostalgic adult fans and younger readers, receiving moderate attention for its experimental approach to integrating intellectual properties under the Disney corporate umbrella.
