Where it came from
Mutant X #28, published by Marvel Comics in 2001, serves as the climactic conclusion to the Mutant X series. The title was originally conceived as an alternative-reality spin-off exploring a darker, inverted Marvel Universe where Havok—Alex Summers—leads the superhero team The Six in a world characterized by corruption and complex moral compromises.
The issue was written by Howard Mackie, who guided the series' sprawling narrative, and featured art by various contributors throughout its run. As the final installment, it resolves the long-standing arc concerning the Nexus of All Realities and Havok's struggle to return to his primary timeline. The series remains a notable example of the late-90s and early-2000s trend of high-concept alternate continuity storytelling within the X-Men franchise.
