My Greatest Adventure #80

Published by DC Comics in June 1963, My Greatest Adventure #80 marks a significant turning point in the publisher's history as it introduces the Doom Patrol. Created by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney with artist Bruno Premiani, the issue was conceived during a period when DC was looking to revitalize its anthology series with more eccentric, outsider-themed superhero teams. The narrative focused on a group of misfits—Robotman, Negative Man, and Elasti-Girl—who were brought together by the mysterious Chief.

The design and characterization of the Doom Patrol were intentionally unconventional, emphasizing the tragedy and social alienation of the team members rather than the traditional heroism of the Justice League. Bruno Premiani’s grounded, fluid artistic style helped establish the moody atmosphere that defined the series. Upon release, the issue was well-received for its departure from standard comic book tropes, effectively launching a long-running cult favorite that would later influence the darker, more introspective tone of modern comics.
