Nana & Kaoru #3

Nana & Kaoru, a manga series written and illustrated by Ryuta Amazume, began its serialization in Young Animal magazine in 2007. The series follows the complex relationship between childhood friends Nana and Kaoru as they explore consensual BDSM practices within a high school setting. Volume 3, released in the early years of the series, continues the central narrative arc concerning the pair's negotiated secret arrangement and the tension inherent in their developing intimacy.

Amazume's art style is characterized by a balance of detailed character expression and the deliberate pacing required for the series' thematic focus. The design of these early volumes was intended to present a challenging, non-traditional look at youth subcultures and power dynamics. While the series courted controversy due to its subject matter, it established a dedicated readership and eventually spawned multiple sequels and a live-action adaptation, reflecting a significant subgenre interest in late-2000s seinen manga.
