Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess' Stardust #3

Stardust #3 was published in 1997 as part of a four-issue prestige format limited series from DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The project originated from Neil Gaiman's desire to craft a modern fairy tale in the tradition of Lord Dunsany, exploring the magical realm of Faerie through the journey of a young man named Tristran Thorn. It represented a unique collaborative effort where Gaiman provided the narrative prose and Charles Vess executed the ornate, painterly illustrations that defined the visual language of the story.

Charles Vess utilized a distinctive illustrative style, drawing heavily from late nineteenth-century romanticism and the Golden Age of illustration to evoke a sense of timeless wonder. The series was well-received by both critics and readers, eventually winning a Mythopoeic Fantasy Award. The success of this miniseries led to its later adaptation into a widely recognized novel and feature film, cementing its status as a significant work in contemporary fantasy literature.
