Where it came from
New X-Men #127, published in 2002, serves as the third chapter of the 'Murder at the Mansion' story arc within Grant Morrison's seminal run on the series. This era of the X-Men was defined by a departure from traditional spandex costumes in favor of a modernized, grounded aesthetic that leaned into science fiction and social commentary, reflecting the cultural shifts of the early 2000s.
The issue features the interior art of Igor Kordey, whose distinct, gritty style was a hallmark of this period of the series. Morrison utilized this issue to delve into the psychological aftermath of the Professor X-related tragedies occurring at the Xavier Institute, focusing on character-driven narratives that pushed the boundaries of the X-Men’s traditional heroic tropes and solidified the series' reputation for provocative, serialized storytelling.
