Where it came from
OMAC, standing for One Man Army Corps, was created by Jack Kirby for DC Comics and debuted in 1974. Developed during a period of creative experimentation for Kirby following his departure from Marvel, the series was conceived as a futuristic vision of a world managed by a global satellite intelligence known as Brother Eye. Kirby both wrote and illustrated the series, utilizing his signature kinetic style to explore themes of surveillance, corporatism, and the loss of individual autonomy in a hyper-technological society.
The fourth issue continues the series' overarching narrative, following Buddy Blank as he navigates the bizarre, high-tech landscape dictated by the Global Peace Agency. While the series was ahead of its time in its cynical portrayal of a world controlled by omnipresent technology, it faced challenges finding a consistent audience during its initial run. Despite its relatively short lifespan, OMAC has since been recognized as a pivotal work in Kirby's bibliography, praised for its imaginative concepts and bold visual storytelling that influenced subsequent generations of creators.
