Orphan and the Five Beasts: Bath of Blood #4

Orphan and the Five Beasts: Bath of Blood is a limited series written by James Stokoe and published by Dark Horse Comics, serving as a direct follow-up to the original 2021 miniseries. The narrative continues the journey of Mo, a former orphan seeking vengeance against her master's disciples, who have each corrupted the martial arts styles they were taught. This specific installment, issue number four, maintains the series' characteristic hyper-detailed, visceral art style that draws heavily from the aesthetic of 1970s Shaw Brothers kung fu cinema.

James Stokoe is both the writer and the illustrator of this series, known for his ability to convey explosive, kinetic action sequences through intricate linework and vibrant, often grotesque, color palettes. The work is widely celebrated by fans of independent comics for its dedication to the 'wuxia' genre, blending traditional martial arts tropes with body horror and high-fantasy world-building. Upon release, the series received critical acclaim for Stokoe’s singular vision, which manages to balance dense, cinematic paneling with a coherent and gripping tale of retribution.
